Join Us for Trauma-Informed Awareness Month 2023
The Illinois ACEs Response Collaborative proudly joins partners, advocates, policymakers, and community members across Illinois in commemorating the fifth annual Trauma-Informed Awareness Month! Join us as we reflect on this year’s theme, Building a Healing-Centered Future: Solutions from the Community, and continue to work together to create responsive, trauma-informed systems that support healing and resilience for all communities. Each week in May, we will focus on a specific theme and send an email spotlighting related initiatives, events, actions, and resources so you can stay involved throughout the month. Make sure to check out our Trauma-Informed Awareness Day 2023 Toolkit for an expanded list of resources and sample social media messages.

We will culminate the month with our annual Trauma-Informed Awareness Day event on May 25, 2023.

May 8 – 12 Theme of the Week: Education & Youth
This week’s theme focuses on education and youth. Over a third of Illinois youth have experienced an Adverse Childhood Experience (ACE), such as abuse, neglect, poverty, discrimination, and community violence. Children exposed to ACEs are at higher risk for short and long-term consequences, including academic challenges, being bullied or bullying others, mental illness, and chronic health conditions in adulthood. Schools and youth-serving agencies have a unique opportunity to mitigate and prevent the effects of trauma by providing supportive, healing environments for all children to thrive.

Check out the actions you can participate in below and follow Health & Medicine on social media this week as we share information to help educators, school leaders, and youth-serving professionals support youth impacted by trauma.
