The Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services has posted a new Public Notice regarding Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) Services.
PROPOSED CHANGES IN METHODS AND STANDARDS FOR ESTABLISHING MEDICAL ASSISTANCE PAYMENT RATES STATE OF ILLINOIS DEPARTMENT OF HEALTHCARE AND FAMILY SERVICES
Pursuant to PA 102-0598, the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services is proposing a change in the methods and standards by which the Department will reimburse providers. The proposed change is effective for dates of service on or after January 1, 2022.
The Department is seeking federal approval for a separate Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) service reimbursement under Medicaid. SBIRT is a model for early intervention and treatment for persons who are under-identified with and at risk of developing a substance use disorders including, but not limited to an addiction to alcohol, opioids, tobacco (nicotine), or cannabis.
The Department estimates this change will increase expenditures $9.8 million annually. The proposed change is subject to approval by the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and may be modified or revised during the approval process.
Any interested party may submit questions or comments concerning these proposed changes in reimbursement methods and standards.
