1. Panel – Rural Mental Health: Policy and Innovation
This presentation will focus on rural mental health projects and community collaboration. | Speaker: Jessica Cantrall, MPH, CHES, Research Project Coordinator, Population Science and Policy, SIU School of Medicine
This presentation will focus on mental health policy using the SIU Population Science and Policy mental health brief as a basis for the presentation. | Speakers: T.J. Albers, MA, Health Policy Coordinator and Vistrit Choudhary, MPP, Health Policy Coordinator, Population Science and Policy, SIU School of Medicine
2. Adventure Therapy: Change and healing through community based experiences and adventure
This workshop will provide an introduction to the field of Adventure Therapy, including history, definition, and components of Adventure Therapy. Participants will learn the benefits of Adventure Therapy and nature-based interventions, and be given opportunities to experience interventions that can be incorporated into clinical practice, while paying specific attention to ethical considerations for the field. Participants will learn about Adventure Works of DeKalb County, Inc. and the work of a community based non-profit specializing in Adventure Therapy. Funding sources, challenges, outcomes and successes will be shared. Participants will leave the session with an understanding of Adventure Therapy as a beneficial alternative modality to traditional therapy. | Speakers: Shannon Kaecker, LCSW, Clinical Director, Adventure Works; Katie Watts, Executive Director of Adventure Works
